Save Some Shekels Subverting Shameless Streaming Services

In this era of rampant capitalism, it gives me great joy to find simple ways to avoid being treated like a walking wallet. I’ll readily admit the following tip isn’t revolutionary, but if it nudges even one person to spend a little more deliberately, it’s worth writing down.

Keep a list of movies and shows that interest you, together with the streaming service(s) where they’re available. Subscribe to one service at a time. When you want to watch something that’s on another platform, cancel your current subscription and start the next one only after the billing period ends. Never pay for more than one at once.

Three services at €12 per month is €432 per year. Rotating a single subscription costs €144. Same shows. Different expenses.

Admittedly, this may be easier if you live in the EU, where consumer protection rules require companies to make cancelling at least as easy as signing up. A small but meaningful win courtesy of the European Union.

Let’s hear it for not stacking subscriptions!
