PSA: Coffee Might Be Causing Your Restless Legs

I remember that during my teenage years, I had this strange, tired feeling in one of my legs that just wouldn't go away, no matter how comfortably I positioned it.

I later found out this was called Restless Legs Syndrome, abbreviated as RLS.

After a while, the feeling went away, only to return a few weeks ago, some 45 years later.

After a few days of discomfort, I asked ChatGPT what the causes of RLS are. It gave me a bunch of possible causes, one of which was caffeine intake.

That clicked: I started drinking coffee in my mid-teens (possibly explaining the bout of RLS at the time), and I'd recently increased my coffee consumption from one pot (two 300 mL mugs) a day to two pots.

The following day, I reduced my intake back to two mugs a day, and within a few days the restless feeling was gone.

If you suffer from RLS, maybe try drinking less coffee -- if applicable. It's a simple experiment that might save you a visit to the doctor. Of course, if the symptoms persist, do get them checked out.
